Welcome back! We are excited to start week 6 of our 12 Week Home Organization Overhaul. I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to jump in to this weeks assignment. I have to admit I have been dreading this week as my Master bedroom is the catch all in my home. Consequently, this will be a huge undertaking for me and my schedule this week is a bit on the crazy side, but I can and will push through! I have to gently remind myself…I eat an elephant one bite at a time. 🙂 So, take a deep breath, put in some upbeat music, and let’s move!
The very first thing we are to do every day this week is MAKE YOUR BED! I know this seems like a menial task, but it is not. It starts your day off on the right foot and it’s those small successes that get you through! The reality is it only takes about 4 minutes….. so just do it!
Remember our process of elimination and organization: You need 3 boxes or bags for throw away, give away, and put away. You also may want to add a memory box for all of your sentimental keepers. I personally use a 66 qt. clear Steralite.
- Pull everything out of your closet one thing at a time.
- Decide what to keep and what to get rid of.
Most of us have an overabundance of clothing. We really only need 5-7 outfits for home, 6-8 outfits for work (depending on if we work or how many hours we work), and 4-6 church outfits. Ask yourself these questions:
- Do I like it? Only keep what you like and what you feel good in!
- Is it too small?
- …..too big?
- …..too outdated?
- …..too faded or stained?
- Do I need it?
- Have I used it in the last year?
- Clean and vacuum the closet
- Return the keepers
Today’s assignment can take a pretty good chunk of time so prepare yourself and your family. It also may get a bit messy, but stay focused! Keep going! You can do it!
Remember, clutter is things that do NOT matter! Don’t keep it around, it just causes chaos. For those things that do matter, we just need to find a good place to put them and a system to find them.
Good luck today! I am praying for your journey today, as I am sure it will be full of obstacles and pot holes along the way! But you can do it! Blessings!
