I don’t know about you but I am VERY excited that today is Friday! It has been a very long week in the O’Brien household. We are ending week 4 of our 12 weeks. We are 1/3 of the way finished with our home organization project. Great job! I hope your homes are being transformed into a place of peace and rest! I am loving the transformation of my home!
Today, as we do on every Friday, we want to do a quick walk through all the areas we have already de-cluttered and organized to make sure those areas are being maintained. Take a box, basket, or bag and just collect everything that does not belong in those areas and put them away. What I have done in the past and plan on putting into practice again, is to assign each child an area of responsibility for their chores.
We are continuing our work in the kitchen by conquering another bank of cupboards, if necessary. It is necessary in my kitchen. If you are finished with your cupboards you get to move on to a drawer (save your junk drawer for later). Remember get rid of things that you are not using…they just take up space and add frustration. If it is broken, fix it or get rid of it. We want to stream line our kitchens for efficiency. It is said we spend an average of about 1100 hours per year in the kitchen. We prepare three meals a day, 365 days a year. We need our kitchens to be well oiled machines!
Quiz for Kitchen Efficiency:
While I am working in the kitchen….
- How many steps am I taking?
- How much time am I spending looking for specific utensils?
- How many different places do I have like items?
Observe yourself this weekend. Take mental notes (or write them down if you have to) on what some possible changes should take place. This is a great time to make changes as we are already organizing.
Our kitchens can be very overwhelming and that is why we are taking our time and not rushing through. I want you to be successful and create a home that is a refuge from the chaos and clutter of the world outside. Remember…steady wins the race! Organization is a constant process. Keep at it. You can do it! Have a fabulous weekend with your family! Rest, Relax, Refuel!
