Welcome to the 12 Week Home Organization Overhaul~Day 3
Do you have a storage room, closet, or cabinet that you are not quite sure what is in there? Today, our little adventure we may find some little treasures. I have an extra storage closet that I use for stockpiling all of our personal hygiene items like shampoo, toilet paper, razors and such, but it has been a long while since I have intentionally took note what was stored in there (and never to be seen again).
Today’s mission has a two fold purpose. First, being to purge all things that do not belong there. But the second, which is equally important is to take inventory of what you have.
Now, if you are just doing a hall closet you should have three pile. A trash pile, give away or sell pile, and a put away (in a different location) pile. So, let’s get started!
- Take everything out…or if you feel too intimidated by that pull out everything one shelf at a time and work baby steps. That’s what I had to do.
- Use baskets or clear shoebox tubs to sort like items
- Write a list or mental note of what you might need–I realized that I was down to four rolls of toilet paper not a great place to be in a family of 8! Oops!
- Get rid of everything you do not use! I found a lot of “stuff” from my extreme couponing days that was just taking up space and we didn’t use. These items are perfect to bless your local shelters or food banks with.
My goal with this cabinet was to make it as easy as possible for my kids and hubby to get the things that needed without having to paw through everything and make a huge mess, but also for me to be able to quickly glance and see what we needed to be well stocked.
Another baby step down! How are you feeling? I am starting to get on a roll. I am feeling pretty good about purging the unnecessary and my confidence is rising up! Keep up the great work! I hope these small successes have built your confidence up and you are ready for some more difficult tasks.
We are on our way of being a good steward of the things that God has truly blessed us with and the home’s in which He has provided! Hope you have a great day!
Would love to hear about your journey to home organization!
