Biblical Womanhood ~ Divine Design: Our Identity

Biblical Womanhood ~ Divine Design

Part One: Our Identity

Our culture has tricked us and Satan has duped us into believing lies in regards to what and who we are as women. My hopes in this study are that we will be reminded who we are and what we are suppose to be doing. We have re-defined Biblical Womanhood through the filter of our culture instead of understanding our divine design and living within the parameters of His Word, in which God has designed us to live.

(Please note: my goal is not to shame you or condemn you, but that we may open our eyes to His truth and His Word and grow in grace and knowledge!)

We are in an identity crisis!

We do not understand WHO we are.

Our identity stems from how we view ourselves and who we identify with. Our identity is made up of all the characteristics by which we are recognized or known. Stop for a moment and give a good thought about your identity. Who are YOU?

An identity crisis according to the Mirriam/Webster Dictionary is a personal psycho-social conflict that involves confusion about one’s role and often a sense of loss of continuity to one’s personality. WebMed Dictionary explains it like this…a disorientation concerning one’s sense of self, values, and role in society.

This is where Christian women live. We have a conflict that is causing confusion of who we are, our purpose, our value, and our roles. Consequently, we are living as causalities to this culture. Instead of living as God has designed us. This identity crisis results in competition, comparison, criticism, which results in a false identity. It is time for us to live out Biblical Womanhood and live within our Divine Design!

Who am I?

For a more older more detailed post: http://thejourneyofasteward.com/finding-your-true-identity.html

First, we need to understand, identity is everything!

IDENTITY IS EVERYTHING!

This is why Satan has worked so hard to skew it. It is who we are, and if we do not know who we are, how much easier is it to deceive us!

This is who you are… Here is a post I wrote some time ago on identity. http://thejourneyofasteward.com/finding-your-true-identity.html

  • You were created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27
  • Your identity is NOT in what you do! It is not in your accomplishments, achievements, or even your roles. Ephesians 2:9
  • Your identity is in what Christ has done!
    • You are forgiven or released from bondage or imprisonment. Your sins have been pardoned. (Strong’s) Colossians 1:14
    • You are justified. You have been rendered righteous on Christ’s behalf. Romans 3:24, 5:1, 1 Corinthians 6:11
    • You are sanctified. You are separated from profane things and dedicated to God. You are being made holy. 1 Corinthians 6:11
    • You are reconciled and redeemed. Romans 5:10, Galatians 3:13

Identity Determines Purpose

It is so important for us to know and understand our true identity. Our true identity determines our purpose. We are to reflect Jesus. Our purpose is to glorify Christ in all we do. 1 Corinthians 6:20

Identity Drives Behavior

Our identity drives our behavior. Who you are determines what you do. I once heard a quote and I use it all the time. (I should probably find the source 😉 ) “To believe something is to act as if it were so.” My behavior or actions show what I truly believe to be true about God. If I am living with a false identity then my behaviors will show it. If I am living within the realm of my true identity, likewise, my behaviors will show it. What are your behaviors telling you? What lies are you believing? Can you identify them simply by looking intently at your actions and behaviors?

Identity Dictates Victory

The only way we will live in victory is to understand and live within our true identity. Our identity is in Christ and He alone is the totality of our identity. We are new creatures and no longer are identified with our sin, but rather Christ’s righteousness. 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Corinthians 1:30, 2 Corinthians 5:21

This new identity now brings conviction, not condemnation. Romans 8:1

That conviction brought on by the Holy Spirit brings our change of heart and change of mind. Thus, changing what our lives look like.

Beware of Identity Theft!

Our enemy prowls around looking for whom he will devour. He wants to steal our identity and make us believe the lies of the culture. Protect your Identity! The only safe and secure identity theft protection out there is the Word of God so, we must saturate ourselves in the Word to protect our true identity and start living from our identity not for our identity!
