The remodel is moving along quicker than I thought! Our construction superintendent has been amazing! He has kept everything pretty close to the schedule. The transformation of our apartment complex in incredible. But there has been some hiccups and inconveniences.
For the last two weeks, I have been displaced from my office which has been difficult, but has some advantages because I am running my office from my apartment. An even bigger inconvenience is the fact that our community laundry room is under construction too. That means trips to the laundromat. Yikes!
I had put it off for over a week before it sunk it that the laundry room was not going to be back in working order anytime soon. We are now over two and a half weeks and still no washers and dryers.
I was amazed how much the laundromat had changed over the years. I thought I was ready with my quarters in hand only to find out they do not use quarters or even tokens anymore. Now what?! My adventure doing laundry made me realize some important life lessons!
Life Lesson from the laundromat #1- Change is the only constant in life.
No matter what you do, who you are, or where you live, life is always changing. Isn’t that what life is? Our lives are in a constant motion of change. We go through seasons of hard times, seasons of growth, and seasons of craziness. Everyday brings something new, something different.
Life Lesson from the Laundromat #2- No matter how prepared you are, things will not go the way you expect them!
I thought I was prepared with all my quarters in hand, but it actually was more difficult with quarters. Now it was not much more difficult, but added a step in my laundry adventure. I had to have all the quarters changed into cash so I could load the laundromat issued electronic card. Technology….gotta love it!
Now, I could have been upset and frazzled, but I have learned to go with the flow and not have any expectations of the outcome of things. I just know some things are going to be a fight especially when I am in a hurry and have a lot to do.
Life Lesson from the Laundromat #3- People are just different!
I am in constant contact with people. I have learned that people are different. Here’s a little secret….that’s okay! Did you noticed I refrained from saying weird? Several years ago, I would have said weird, but sometimes I think I am the weird one. We all have our own thought processes and reasons we do things. It’s not bad. It’s not better. It’s just different. When we get this, loving people becomes easier!
Life Lesson from the Laundromat #4- Life is short and always full of laundry!
The laundry will always be there tomorrow….your kids won’t always be!
My husband insisted that my children go with me to help with the laundry. I know his intent was to b
e a blessing to me, but I knew it was going to be a chore and would just be easier for me to just get it done. It ended up he took five of the six to town with him and I took daughter number two, as she had to be taken to a tutoring appointment.
It was a great time to just visit with her, while I was shoving clothes into the washers and trying to figure out the electronic card thingy :).
Life Lesson from the Laundromat #5- Laundry is a blessing!
I know what you are thinking…..has she fallen off her rocker? Here is a thought I was thinking as I was folding my clothes at the laundromat, every one of these seven piles represents a blessing in my life! I wouldn’t trade those blessings for anything, no matter how much laundry they produce! 🙂
Count your laundry piles….they are blessings!
