I feel like I am dropping the ball on keeping up with my monthly food budget. As I sit to write this I have my receipts in my hand with no idea really how much I have spent. I am a little nervous. Life has been so crazy and thankfully I have not made too many trips to the store, so that has to be a good thing right?! Well let’s see if I stayed under a $500 food budget for the month of February.
It has almost been a month since my last post. Here is what I am working with to finish off February. My total spent as of 2/9 was$ 289.09, which left a balance of $210.91. Here we go….the truth is in the receipts.
Trading Co.- Tony’s pizzas and macaroni salad (I know real healthy huh. Lunch for the kids at Bran’s)
Fred Meyer- Tazo Tea (3), organic ketchup(2)
Super 1- Obrien hashbrowns (our favorite :), half and half, and 2 snack cakes ( I have no idea what those are)
Trading Co.- Butter (2), lettuce
Super 1- bread, naked juice, boathouse smoothie, cake mix, frosting (for birthday cake), half and half
Super 1- cheese, butter, and licorice for the hubs
Walmart- mineral water, juice, choc. chips
Total Spent for February: $394.55
Balance for February: $105.45
So, I figured I was missing a receipt from Costco. I went through my bank account and sure enough I was. The transaction was 140 and some change.
Costco- from my memory….2 boxes of organic cereal, naked juice, 4 pizzas, frozen berries, tortilla chips, salsa, ( I bought 3 bottles of vitamins for the kiddos) approx. $30
Total ish: $110
AND….farm fresh eggs….$25
Arg….$29.55 OVER BUDGET
Note to self: Don’t wait until the end of the month to figure out what you have spent. 🙂 I have to admit that I was only about $30 over budget. I can live with that. 😉 This month I will try to be more diligent. I really want to be successful at living on a $500 food budget. I am in serious need of a more solid menu plan.
