Happy New Year! It is so hard to believe that 2015 is over! Welcome 2016! It is crazy how time flies, but I am excited about the upcoming year and the new adventures God is going to take us on! Let’s enjoy the journey together!
I have been mulling over so many things in my brain with the onset of a new year. Most people talk of resolutions for the new year, but in about two weeks I am sure we will see the majority of resolutions set aside. Apparently, we have lost the meaning of resolution. Resolution means the act of resolving or determining, according to my World Book Dictionary. To resolve means to make up one’s mind, determine, decide. As a noun, resolve means firmness in carrying out a purpose, determination. Here’s the reality, we have no resolve. We lack determination to see things through. That sounds like a character issue to me. That is the truth behind failed resolutions. Ouch!
Once we start talking about character issues, we have to realize character issues are directly related to our hearts which in turn become a spiritual issue. It kind of makes you want to rethink New Year’s resolutions, doesn’t it? Normally, when we start thinking about resolutions it has to do with the outward, but maybe we should start looking inwardly.
The typical resolutions have to do with weight loss, fitness, organization, abstaining from vices, and getting out of debt, but if we look at these things in our life they can be traced down to a heart issue. Don’t get me wrong, those are all good things to accomplish! The problem is we are not willing to deal with the heart issues and we are just trying to modify our behaviors. Behavior modification alone leads to failed resolutions.
Here is the irony…those are all topics, in one way, shape, or form, of my blog.
Knowing this, I want my blog to have a bit of a different spin on it this year. I want to give you tools and systems for those behaviors, but I also want to get down to the heart of the matter, so that true change can happen. This may require some hard medicine for all of us. Me included! God has been faithful in showing me the issues of my heart that are attached to these topics and some are just downright ugly and sinful. But God is also full of grace and mercy and wants our hearts to be changed to become more like Him.
Before we jump in with both feet, I would love to hear from you!
What are your experiences with resolutions? (No judging, I promise!)
What are your resolutions for this year?
Can’t wait to hear from you all! I am excited to see where God is going to take us!
May God’s Blessings be upon you this New Year!
I want to apologize for the lack of blog posts. Life took an interesting turn for us. The last 3 weeks has been an adventure to say the very least. And because of the craziness of life, my blog got set aside, which is a bummer as I was starting to gain some writing momentum and I truly enjoy it. I joined a 30 Day Writing Challenge and it was very fruitful. I did not worry about fine tuning my writing, just getting it out there. It was a great experience for me as I always second guess myself. Sadly, I could not finish the challenge, as life just got in the way ;). But that is O.K., as I did learn some lessons through it!
